Tamworth: Kody Thomas Perry-Woolfrey crashed Harley Davidson drunk and pantless on a dare

A Central Coast man was on the tins at a popular music festival when he accepted a ballsy dare to take a ride on his Harley Davidson - sans pants. It didn’t end well for him, or his hog.

A Central Coast chippy and regular charity rider crashed his Harley Davison after accepting a drunken dare to go around the block with no pants, a court has heard.

Kody Thomas Perry-Woolfrey, 29, of Halekulani, faced Wyong Local Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to one count of mid-range drink-driving.

His solicitor, leading traffic lawyer Bobby Locker, told the court Perry-Woolfrey was with a group of mates, who he regularly rides motorbikes with, at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Mr Locker said after a few too many beers his client succumbed to “peer group pressure” to see if he could do a lap of the block wearing only his jacket and no pants.

An agreed set of facts states Perry-Woolfrey had consumed six or seven schooners of mid strength Great Northern Beer at the Longyard Hotel over a period of about five hours.

Woolfrey-Perry was staying at the Golden Guitar Motel.

After finishing drinking he returned to the Golden Guitar where they were staying and got on his black Harley Davidson motorcycle about 10.40pm on September 28 last year.

He was travelling south on The Ringers Rd when he approached the roundabout of Greg Norman Drive and tried to turn left at about 25-30km/h.

The facts state he was seen to start to lose control before overcorrecting and sliding out.

“The accused and motorcycle has bounced after hitting the ground, the motorcycle correcting itself upright before falling to the right side of the motorcycle,” the facts state.

“The accused coming to a rest underneath the motorcycle. Nearby witnesses in a car park have come across to assist the rider who described as “asleep” and “snoring” on the roadway.

“At the time of the crash the accused was wearing a black open face helmet, leather rider’s vest, socks and shoes. The rider was not wearing any other clothing at the time of the crash and described as naked by the witnesses.”

He was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital where a blood test revealed an alcohol reading of 0.119.

Mr Locker said his client suffered a broken collarbone and had a small “bleed on the brain” as a result of the crash.

He said the local carpenter regularly took part in charity rides, raising significant amounts of money for worthwhile causes and his wife was expecting their first child.

Magistrate Trevor Khan said he hadn’t heard of anyone riding a motorcycle that “free and easy” before.

“It’s a crack-up,” he said.

However his tone sharpened somewhat when he addressed Perry-Woolfrey about the dangers of riding motorcycles with no protection around them to begin with, let alone with no pants and under the influence.

“It could have easily been a tragedy for you, a tragedy for your wife and a tragedy for your unborn child,” Mr Khan said.

He convicted him, fined him $900 and disqualified him from driving for three months with a further 12 months on an interlock device.
