The search continues for a driver who rammed his vehicle into a police car three times in Springfield last night.

Springfield residents were advised to lock their doors around 10pm with police, along with police dogs and helicopters searching the area.

Around 9.30pm, officers from Brisbane Water Police District were patrolling Erina when they saw a Nissan Elgrand driving erratically.

When police attempted to pull the car over on Sherwood Dr, it stopped for a moment before reversing into the front of the police vehicle. The car then drove forward, before reversing into the police car a second time.

It started to drive away and then did a U-turn before reversing into the front of the police vehicle for the third time. It then fled the scene.

The two male senior constables in the vehicle were uninjured and called for assistance.

The Nissan was found nearby on Willow Rd a short time later.

Police established a perimeter and, with assistance from the Dog Unit and PolAir, a search was carried out to locate the driver. However he has not been found.

Many people took to social media to see what was going on. One man said police were hovering near the Foodworks at Springfield, before others said they could hear it searching around East Gosford.

“Police and dogs in my front yard, very scary,” a woman commented.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Gosford Police Station on (02) 4323 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
