TERRIGAL’S Paul Lemmon says he’s still coming to terms with his incredible Coolangatta Gold win on the Gold Coast.
Lemmon took out the over-50 division with an impressive time of 04:26:20, ahead of Mitchell Phillips and Mark Kehoe, an effort which saw him finish the major endurance event 32nd overall.
“I was very pleased with how it all unfolded. I set a goal to win in the 30s category and did that, then in the 40s I won that, and then to win it again in the 50s, I’m very happy,” he told the Express Advocate.
The moment was even more special as Lemmon crossed the finish line alongside friend and former Australian ironman champion, Guy Andrews, who won the 35-39 years age group.
“It was great. He’s a friend of mine and we both used to compete in the professional ironmen series in the early ‘90s together.”
“We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and being in the different age categories, we were able to help each other.”
Avoca Beach’s Kyle Garrett picked up a silver medal with his impressive efforts in the men’s open short course on Saturday, finishing less than three minutes behind winner Ben Cochrane.
Central Coast also dominated the 190+ relay event as the Terrigal Masters team took out first place, while another local crew from Avoca sealed third spot in the same category.
“It was great to see so many locals from Central Coast Surf Lifesaving competing across the weekend in the team and short course events,” Lemmon said.
