JAMIE “Mr Business” Pittman is no new name to Australian boxing fans.
The former Olympian and WBA world title challenger remains heavily involved in the sport and is helping today’s stars achieve their dreams through his range of coaching roles in the boxing world.
Pittman, 36, moved to coaching three years ago and was appointed national coach co-ordinator for Boxing Australia only last week.
“My success has been a big shock for me,” he said.
“Within the first 12 months, I was off to the world junior championships as the Australian coach and backed it up at the world youths.
“I’m now the national coach co-ordinator and the head of talent identification and development in Australia.
“I’ve also got my own team here on the Coast for ‘Team Business’.”
World silver medallist Kaye Scott, 33, is one of the athletes training at Pittman’s West Gosford base.
She commutes to training from Wahroonga regularly.
Scott said she was full of confidence ahead of the national Commonwealth Games trials in November, after winning Australia’s only gold medal at the Poland International last month.
“It was a strong performance and I’m feeling really confident and happy in the new (welterweight) weight division.”
Scott captained the boxing team in her Commonwealth Games debut in 2014, and insisted her international experience since Glasgow will be crucial in the hopes of securing a medal.
“I won my first fight and then lost my next fight so I didn’t come away with a medal, so I really want to change things this time and gold is the aim.”
“Boxing is a really tough sport in regards to financial help with the Government, so to help me along with my journey I am looking for sponsors that can help out in any way.”
