If you ever needed a reason to support local business by drinking more beer, your worries are over. a Central Coast brewer has picked up a golden gong at a prestigious international competition.
In what will be music to the ears of local craft beer fans, a local tipple has been awarded a gold medal at the prestigious Australian International Beer awards.
Six String Brewing Company at Erina was among 402 breweries from 36 countries to enter the competition which is one of the largest annual beer contests in the world.
The event was held in Melbourne last week with judges tasting their way through a staggering 2594 entries in a variety of categories.
Six String, which opened six years ago has been awarded a coveted gold medal for its Tropical Pale Ale (known as TPA) in the New World Style Pale Ale (packaged) category with entries from across Australia, the USA, New Zealand and China.
This is the second year running this pale ale has snavelled a gold.
“We were competing against some of the big guns in the brewing industry and we are so proud of our small team of brewers and proud to be representing the Central Coast on an international level,” said co-owner Chris Benson.
Their other medals included a silver for Best New World Style Pale Ale (draught) a bronze for Best European Style Lager (packaged) for their Coastie Lager.
The awards are run by the Royal Agricultural Society in partnership with Federation University Australia and is the largest competition of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.
Six String Brewing is no stranger to the beer competition circuit and this time last year took a beer billed as tasting like “liquefied mint slice” to GABS Beer Wine and Cider Festival - also in Melbourne.
The festival was originally known as the Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular, and was designed as a celebration of craft beer diversity and creativity.
