A BEER billed as tasting like liquefied mint slice will help showcase the flavours of the Central Coast at one of the world’s top 10 beer festivals.
Craft beer producers Six String Brewery at Erina has produced one of its most unusual brews to date in a chocolate stout called Mint Condition which will be its entry in the annual GABS Beer, Wine and Cider Festival.
The unique festival invites craft breweries to release a brand new “spectapular” beer for the festival, which this year kicks off in Melbourne on May 18 before heading for Sydney on June 2, and Auckland on June 30.
The team at Six String were busy yesterday canning their delicious minty brew ready to be shipped to Melbourne next week.
Brewery owners Chris Benson and Ryan Harris said they had entered a brew every year for five years, including last years purple coloured beer called the “Purple People Eater”.
“The festival gives us brewers a chance to be creative,” Mr Benson said.
Ryan Harris descirvbed Mint Condition as a beer with a “subtle” flavour and aroma.
“It’s chocolatey with a sweet flavour, but it’s still a beer,” he said.
“The mint is not overpowering,” he said.
“It’s a perfect beer for a cold day in front of the fire — a winter beer.”
Six String Brewery has produced 100 cases and some kegs of Mint Condition for the festival and beer lovers can try it out at their Sydney Festival stall at Sydney Showground, Olympic Park, on Saturday June 2.
At the end of the festival, you will be able to try the limited edition brew at Six Strings Brewery’s bar and restaurant at Erina.
Six String Brewery has plans for a major expansion soon.
“It will be a major upgrade for us but it’s what we need to do to reach a bigger client base, provide more jobs and stay on the Coast,” Mr Harris said.
GABS Beer and Cider Festival
The festival was originally known as the Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular, and was designed as a celebration of craft beer diversity and creativity.
The inaugural event was such a success that Jeffares and Greenstone jumped on the opportunity to create a unique, educational and fun festival experience that excited both converted craft beer fans and the uninitiated.
This year’s Sydney event on June 2 brings together the very best breweries and cider makers in Australia and New Zealand but also adds food and a range of entertainment at Sydney Showground.
