Royal Hotel’s new Sports Bar brings flare to classic pub menu
If you haven’t been yet or haven’t been for a while, do yourself a favour. That’s the hop tip around the Royal Hotel’s new Sports Bar and classic pub menu.
If you haven’t been yet or haven’t been for a while, do yourself a favour.
That was the advice of former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh and Sky Racing’s Glenn Munsie who have given the Royal Hotel’s newly renovated Sports Bar a ringing endorsement.
Owners Frank Arangio and Marney McQueen have given the historic pub at the gateway to Wyong’s town centre a new lease on life since taking the reigns about 18 months ago.
The couple have ripped out walls to turn the dark, pokey front bar into a light, airy Sports Bar where patrons are now bringing their buzzers from the bistro to enjoy a meal without missing any of the action.
And with a variety of beers, wines and spirits to choose from, the renovated bar is a sports lover’s paradise with 23 high definition screens including two massive 2.2m ultra high definition screens pumping out Fox Sports and Sky Channel viewing live all day, everyday.
The Sports Bar also features a five-by-two metre, high definition TAB theatre wall to give punters everything they need to know about every race across the country.
It can also double as a stadium-size screen for big fights, grand finals and other major sporting fixtures.
The couple has poured their heart into renovating the historic pub, which turns 130 this year, while retaining its heritage charms such as the towering pressed metal ceilings in the Sports Bar and upstairs guest rooms.
If the new Sports Bar is attracting new patrons, it is chef Daniel Bray in the bistro who is keeping them coming back with classic, iconic Aussie pub grub at 1990s prices.
Ten dollar lunches, weekly deals on rissoles with veggies and mash, chicken schnitzel and fish and chips, free hotdog Saturdays and an ever changing `specials’ board never fails to impress diners.
“It’s classic pub food,” Ms McQueen said.
“Nothing has been deconstructed or reconstructed, it’s just classic pub food at very reasonable prices.”
Chef Bray said his approach to pub dining was “simple but tasty” with fresh, natural ingredients and generous serves.
The Royal Hotel is also bringing back live entertainment and will host an afternoon with champion boxer Danny Green next Thursday.
Special guest host Ben Damon from Fox Sports will join Danny as they chat about the legend’s life and career.
An auction will also be held with all money raised going towards a three-year-old girl who’s father was killed in a `one-punch’ attack.
