Near drowning at Avoca Lagoon second incident in two weeks
The Central Coast has experienced its second near-drowning after two children were pulled from Avoca Lagoon yesterday afternoon. It’s less than two weeks since a similar incident in Tuggerah Lake.
The Central Coast has experienced its second near-drowning of a child after two children were pulled from Avoca Lagoon yesterday afternoon.
A four-year-old boy was flown to hospital by CareFlight in a critical condition after he was pulled from the water unconscious just before 6pm.
A six-year-old girl was also pulled from the water at the same incident and taken to hospital by road.
This follows a two year old boy being flown to John Hunter Hospital on December 31 after he was found floating in Tuggerah Lake at The Entrance.
In the latest incident CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called in shortly before 6.00pm, landing in a park beside the beach.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were on scene providing initial treatment. Surf Life Savers from the beach also attended with off-duty doctors on location also assisting.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment in order to stabilise the boy. The boy was intubated and placed in an induced coma before being transferred to the helicopter.
He was flown to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
CareFlight’s medical team assessed the six-year-old child as stable and she was taken by road ambulance crews to Gosford Hospital.
CareFlight’s medical team praised all the responders for their quick responses and vital contributions to helping the children.
Police said the pair - a four year old boy and five year old girl - were both spotted just before 6pm.
It’s understood a doctor and nurse happened to be in the area at the time and helped with their immediate treatment.
