Plans to open the first Taco Bell fast food restaurant on the Central Coast are on exhibition as it is revealed that Lisarow Plaza is the chosen location.

Taco Bell is returning to Australia

Taco Bell has its sights set on opening its first restaurant on the Central Coast.

The popular restaurant has lodged plans with Central Coast Council for a restaurant at the Lisarow shopping complex on Parsons Rd

The proposal, which is currently on public exhibition, is valued at $1.9m.

Taco Bell is planning to construct its restaurant at the overflow carpark between the Coles and Woolworths carparks with seating for 40 people.

It will also include a carpark for six vehicles, drive-through facility and loading dock. Trading hours would be seven days 10am to 10pm and 10am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights.

“In terms of the number of employees, the restaurant will employ at least 70 employees which are shift workers together with four full time managers,” the proposal states.

“Security measures will include 15 internal CCTV cameras and five external and two duress buttons.”

Taco Bell indicates that the plans comply with the local centre zone, will compliment Lisarow Shopping Centre “with a state-of-the-art takeaway food and drink outlet”, will provide employment and further activate the Pacific Highway corridor.

Taco Bell has 23 locations throughout Australia in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. There are six restaurants in NSW at Albion Park, Tamworth, Ballina, Blacktown, Greensquare and Jesmond.

The American chain, which is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands Inc, started back in the 60s in Southern California in the United States when Glen Bell had a dream and opened his first restaurant in 1962.

Taco Bell has a few unsuccessful attempts to open in Australia dating back to the 1980s, however plans are now soaring to open more than 60 new stores across Australia and New Zealand by June 2024.

The chain serves tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and more.

Mexican food is a popular fast food choice with other chains such as Mad Mex and Guzman y Gomez operating across Australia.

Guzman Y Gomez has recently lodged plans to open its second restaurant on the Central Coast.

A $1.7 million development application has been lodged with council to subdivide the Hungry Jacks site on Anzac Rd, Tuggerah, and construct a Guzman Y Gomez in the south east corner.

Lisarow Plaza already has a number of big names in the complex such as Subway, Coles, Woolworths, Bakers Delight, The Bakehouse and Chemist Outlet along with local favourites Rossini’s Italian Family Restaurant, Lisarow Takeaway and Central Coast Cannoli.
