Fans of Guzman Y Gomez rejoice, the popular Mexican food chain has lodged plans to open its second restaurant on the Central Coast.
A $1.7 million development application (DA) has been lodged with Central Coast Council to subdivide the Hungry Jacks site on Anzac Rd, Tuggerah, and construct a Guzman Y Gomez restaurant in the south east corner.
The development will include a 54-seat restaurant — 32 seats inside and 22 outside — and a two-lane drive through with dual order points.
“The site is located within an established mixed industrial/commercial setting within walking distance to the Tuggerah Train Station, bus stops and a few take away restaurants,” the DA states.
“It is considered an ideal location for the proposed development.”
The existing Hungry Jacks restaurant will remain but its drive-through will be upgraded to two lanes with dual ordering points along with some changes to its signage and parking.
Under the plans the Guzman Y Gomez restaurant will be open 24-hours a day with 60 staff including three managers and a combination of full time, part time and causal staff.
A maximum of 12 staff will be onsite at any one time during peak periods.
It won’t be hard to miss the chain’s new location with a 15m-tall illuminated pylon sign to be erected fronting Wyong Rd and another 9m illuminated sign fronting Anzac Rd.
“The proposed signs are considered to be compatible with the existing and future visual character of the area,” the DA states.
“The proposed signs are not positioned within an environmentally sensitive area and do not dominate or visually clutter the streetscape. The proposed signs do not include flashing lights, animated or complex displays or any other form of detracting or dazzling displays.”
The proposed development also requires the relocation of a number of easements and an existing culvert to facilitate the new building on the flood-prone land.
The DA states the works were “not predicted to adversely impact on existing flood behaviour” however during significant rainfall events, “there is potential for inundation of a large portion of the existing site, including the area where the proposed GYG building is to be sited”.
The DA is yet to be approved by council.
