Killarney Vale: Paedophile Bruce Andrew Cameron pleads guilty to sickening abuse of teen girl

A man old enough to be a teenage girl’s grandfather showed her hard core pornography, bought her a sex toy for her birthday and then sexually abused her, a court has heard.

A man’s bail has been continued despite pleading guilty to sickening child sex abuse offences because a magistrate found his admissions were not unique enough to be considered “special circumstances”.

Bruce Andrew Cameron, of Killarney Vale, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to two counts of having sexual intercourse with a child, two counts of sexually touching her, inciting her to sexually touch him and grooming a child for unlawful sex.

When the pleas were entered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) solicitor made a detention application to have the 68-year-old’s bail refused.

The court heard Cameron was granted bail in the Supreme Court last September after his arrest in July.

An agreed set of facts states Cameron began acting “weird” around the victim in 2020, telling her she looked good, calling her “sexy” and slapping her bum when she walked past.

When the girl was about 13 or 14 the facts state Cameron began showing her pornographic material on his mobile phone every time he saw her.

After a while she told her mother, who confronted him about it but he denied it and the girl’s mother believed him.

“After the victim returned to the offender’s house, he told her that she didn’t keep the secret,” the facts state.

He went back to showing her pornographic videos on his phone until one birthday when he gave her a black vibrator with rhinestones on the bottom and told her he would get her a more “extreme one”.

In early 2021 Cameron sexually touched the victim and one night in July 2022 he had sexual intercourse with her twice, sexually touched her and incited her to touch him.

“The offender hugged the victim tight and said `I love you. This is our little secret. Don’t tell anyone’,” the facts state.

Two days later the victim disclosed what happened to her mother and they later reported it to police.

Police searched Cameron’s home and took DNA samples from the girl’s underwear, which could not exclude him as a contributor.

Cameron was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station where he agreed to a recorded interview in which he denied sexually touching the victim or having sexual intercourse with her.

However he conceded that he “probably” made sexualised comments to the victim and used a vibrator on her spine when he massaged her.

The Crown prosecutor told the court Cameron’s guilty pleas were a significant change in his circumstances and applied to have him remanded in custody until he was sentenced.

However Magistrate Stephen Olischlager said the legislation meant the Local Court could only overturn a Supreme Court bail determination if the change in circumstances was “special”.

He said an offender entering guilty pleas was an expected, ordinary part of the “criminal justice process” and refused the detention application.

Cameron was adjourned to face Gosford District Court on June 29 to fix a sentencing date.
