Halloween horror at Killarney Vale with massive haunted house

WITH 14 rooms called things like The Graveyard, Evil Clowns and Zombies, it’s no wonder this Killarney Vale Halloween enthusiast is expecting a thousand visitors this year.

Killarney Vale's Amazing Halloween House

IN a quiet Killarney Vale street a hideous house of horror has sprung up.

Within it’s darkened walls the bones of the dead are hidden and dismembered corpses covered in blood are laid out on tables.

But don’t panic. It’s not a modern day crime scene — just the amazing Halloween obsession of stay-at-home father and grandfather, Shane Raics.

Shane with his wife Danielle and daughter Jakaya, 11, have been building and expanding their Halloween horror house for about seven years and it now takes up their entire front yard.

It has 14 rooms — each with its own theme — including Spiders, Ghouls, Ghosts, Hall of Oddities, Timmy’s Farmyard, Graveyard, Evil Clowns, Claustrophobic Hall, Boneyard, Witch’s Lair, Evil Nurse, Zombies, Bloody Tool Shed and the Hall of Skulls.

When it opens on Halloween night — there will be laser lights, smoke machines, and projectors in full swing adding to the spooky effect.

As many as 10 adults will supervise and be dressed up to scare all those who dare to enter.

“I’ve spent $7000 and counting,” Mr Raics said.

“There’s a mixture of reasons I do it — you see the fright and the fear in the kids’ eyes, but you also see the fun and the joy,” he said

“In many cases they are more interested in getting a good scare than in getting the lollies — and the parents love it.

“People say its an American celebration — but all our major holidays — Christmas, Easter — have origins in other countries

“We just embrace this and do it for the kids.

“We don’t do Christmas lights — this has become our thing.”

This year the Raics family is expecting as many as 1000 visitors to their ghoulish extravaganza.

In the future they hope to find a more permanent venue for their display that is not subject to weather and storms.

“One year we got hit by a freak storm — and it wrecked everything — we almost gave up,” Mr Raics said.

“There was another storm last week too and I was up all night keeping the water off and checking on things.”
