After setting up three bars in Cairns, three mates were on the hunt for their next venue.

Gosford immediately struck a chord due to the current developments, cranes in the sky, and proposals in the CBD.

The trio, including Grant Buckham, Darren Barber and Sam Kennis, acted quickly and opened Bay Rd Brewing at 89 Donnison St, Gosford last December.

“We were looking to do an entirely new venture and chose Gosford because of what is going on here,” Mr Buckham told the Express Advocate.

“We knew we were going to be early but we wanted to get a good spot in the CBD so that we can settle in and become part of the community.

“The response has been great, people love having another brewery on the coast.

“The culture in Gosford is going to be fantastic for both live music and food.”

Mr Buckham, who grew up visiting family on the coast, has a background in venues and construction, with a passion for brewing.

The team has brought on coastie Jacob Wesson as head brewer, releasing a selection of seasonal craft beers brewed on site.

“Everything is done here on site,” Mr Buckham said.

“We’ve created something a bit different, along with our core range.”

The beer features Bay Road Lager, Motor Boat Pale Ale, Wave Runner XPA and Super Cat IPA, along with the limited edition Dragon Fruit Saison and The Sailor Session IPA plus more.

The ongoing development and action in Gosford attracted the three business partners to the coast.

“We pride ourselves on using the finest specialty yeast, malts and hops sourced locally and from all over the world,” Mr Buckham said.

“This ensures every drop we brew, on site in Gosford, is brewed with care, precision and tastes the best.”

Food is available at the brewery, served by Pitt Bull Smokehouse who is set to move into the premises in the coming weeks.

The brewery is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm, with live music on Sundays and open mic night on Thursdays.
