Gosford: Bikies, colours and their tattoos banned under plans for new Archibald pub

Body-worn video for security, extended trading hours and a ban on all things “bikie” — including their tattoos — are among a raft of plans to fit-out the coast’s newest drinking hole.

Plans have been lodged to fit-out the Central Coast’s newest pub complete with pizzeria, sports bar, gaming area, capacity for 1200 patrons, extended trading hours - and a bikie ban.

With cranes in the sky and scaffolding reaching 20-storeys, the $375m Archibald development in the heart of Gosford is taking shape.

And now the developer Aland has lodged an application to fit-out the ground floor “gastropub” including new details around patron numbers, physical layout, operating hours and a plan of management.

The pub was approved by the Hunter and Central Coast Joint Regional Planning Panel in May 2015 as part of the overall development, which included a mix of retail, commercial and entertainment uses, a luxury hotel with 134 rooms, four levels of parking for 476 vehicles and 276 residential units in two towers above a central podium.

Aland has now lodged a “procedural” development application (DA) to formalise patron numbers, hours of operation and plan of management for the ground floor pub.

“The patron capacity to the pub and associated restaurant will be 1200 (+ 50 staff) and the hours of operation will be 8am to midnight Monday to Wednesday, and 8am-6am Thursday, Friday, Saturday and 10am-12 midnight Sunday and public holidays,” the DA states.

Under the plans, the pub will include a 188sq m pizza bar and cafe, casual drinking area (209sq m) including seating areas, gaming area (222sq m) with separate bar and gaming airlock areas, sports bar and TAB (298sqm) along with seating areas, pool tables and darts zone.

The associated restaurant will have a seating area of 237sq m, while the gaming area will have 30 poker machines — the maximum allowed for a hotel of any size.

The plan of management filed with the DA also covers the other licenced bars throughout the development including an all-day dining restaurant for hotel guests, pool and swim up bar on Level 5 of the podium, a 400-patron capacity Sky Bar on Level 28 and three large conference rooms.

Under the management plan security staff “will always be required to wear personal body cameras, when performing their duties which when activated are capable of contemporaneously recording both audio and visual footage of interactions”.

Meanwhile the licensee shall not permit any person to enter if the person is adorned in any clothing, jewellery or visible tattoo displaying the name, colours, patch, insignia or symbol — including “1%” or 1%er” — that indicates membership or association with any outlaw motorcycle gang or similar criminal group.

Named after Archibald Acheson, the second Earl of Gosford, the high profile development on the former Union Hotel site in the middle of Gosford is scheduled to be open early next year.
