The young female kitchen hand injured when a gas cooktop exploded at Six String Brewing Company is expected to undergo multiple surgeries and skin grafts.
It comes as friends and colleagues have launched a GoFundMe appeal to raise money to aid in her recovery.
“One of our Six String family members was the unfortunate victim of a terrible accident at work.” the fundraiser said.
“There was a gas explosion in the kitchen at work which happened whilst Jordana was inside, she suffered horrendous burns to 25 per cent of her body and although we don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, we have been informed that she will require multiple surgeries and skin grafts over the coming four weeks.
“This will be just the start of her long and difficult journey back to recovery, she will have to undergo months of physical therapy and hospital visits before she will be able to return to work.”
Emergency services were called to the Erina brewery at 11.45am on Monday following reports of an explosion in the kitchen.
Paramedics treated the woman, aged in her 20s, for burns to her face before she was taken to a nearby field where she was met by the CareFlight Helicopter which flew her to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
The fundraiser organiser Nick Stacey said friends and colleagues were putting together a car package.
”It goes without saying that Jordana, as a member of the Six String family, will have medical expenses and wages totally taken care of but it is our hope that we can help raise the money to be able to help support her family through this difficult time,” he said on the fundraising page.
“It will be a long road ahead and her boyfriend and family are going to need extended time off work to help her recover. It is vitally important that she can fully focus on getting better and not have to worry about her family taking time off to support her.”
The brewery posted to social media on Monday saying their Taproom was closed.
“Our priority is our staff first and foremost. As we are receiving updates on our injured staff member, we also want to make sure the rest of our Six String family is 100 per cent before opening our doors. Our kitchen is currently undergoing repairs and checks to ensure we are running smoothly for re-open,” the post read.
“We will continue to update you as more info becomes known, with both our staff and venue. “We also just want to thank you all for your support, respect and kind words through this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we remain closed, we do apologise for any inconveniences this may have caused.”
