DELAYS will be experienced across the Gosford CBD over the next six weeks, as the Donnison Street Rail Bridge closes for upgrade work.
The bridge was closed yesterday, as safety upgrades to the tune of $1.3 million commenced.
Transport for NSW and Sydney Trains will deliver the much needed upgrade to the rail bridge, located near Gosford Train Station.
The project will require Donnison St, between Showground Rd and Dane Dr, to be closed to vehicles and pedestrians at all times until July 7.
It will be a long six weeks for the thousands of people who use the bridge on a daily basis, however detour signs are in place to guide traffic to alternate routes. Pedestrians will have to cross the rail line via Gosford Station.
Works include installing new traffic barriers, resurfacing the road pavement, and installing ‘anti-throw screens’, which protect the railway from objects thrown or falling from the bridge.
An intensive, around the clock, work period will take place over the June long weekend period to minimise impact on commuters.
Works will typically be conducted from 7am to 5pm.
