Investigations are underway following a shop fire on the state’s Central Coast.
About 2.15am on Thursday, August 22, emergency services were called to a shopping complex on the Pacific Highway at Charmhaven following reports one of the shops was on fire.
On arrival they found a car had allegedly been driven into the front of a bicycle shop next to a tobacconist.
Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the blaze, however, the shop was extensively damaged and two shops on either side were also damaged.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and established a crime scene.
Police have not received any reports of injury and no one was located at the scene on arrival.
The location of the fire, adjacent to a tobacconist, has fuelled speculation on social media of a growing “tobacco war” on the Central Coast following the alleged firebombing of a separate tobacconist at Ettalong less than a fortnight ago.
However, there is no suggestion the fire at Charmhaven is in anyway involved in the so-called “war”.
Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
