A three-year-old child has been revealed as the confirmed COVID-19 case from Woodport Early Learning Centre in Erina – and the coast’s youngest case.
However, the centre is likely to avoid the virus spreading, with the child not attending the Woodport Cl centre since March 16.
Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) has confirmed the diagnosis, saying the child and their family are in isolation and are “doing well”.
“They are contacted every day to check that they are well and if any family members develop symptoms they will be tested,” a CCLHD spokeswoman said.
Parents at the centre will be breathing a sigh of relief, with the child last attending the centre three weeks ago.
“The public health investigation into the case is complete and source is unknown,” the CCLHD spokeswoman said. “All close contacts, including those from the centre, have been identified and advised to self-isolate. No current confirmed cases have been related to the early learning centre. There is no ongoing public health risk related to the early learning centre.”
The Express contacted the centre which indicated they would not comment at this stage.
The Rose of Sharon childcare centre in Blacktown was not as fortunate, with 13 people – including staff and children – diagnosed with COVID-19 over the weekend. Close contacts have also been diagnosed with the virus
It comes as updated figures were released yesterday with 119 confirmed cases recorded across the Central Coast. Of the 119, 44 have recovered while three remain in hospital.
The CCLHD has stated that a majority of the region’s cases “acquired the infection from overseas”.
