A DA for a $3.2 million childcare centre has been lodged for the corner of Central Coast Highway and High Valley Cl in Wamberal.
The applicant, High Valley Holdings Pty Ltd, is proposing to build a 103-place early learning centre at 2 High Valley Close.
The 5000sq m site, which has a frontage to Central Coast Highway as well as High Valley Cl, is a vacant block which has been used as a construction depot during the upgrade of the highway.
The proposed early learning centre would include a single-storey administration and facilities building, outdoor play areas, 41 carparking spaces as well as landscaping and security fencing.
Entrance to the centre facility would be off High Valley Cl and the centre would have a maximum of 24 staff at any one time. It would operate from 7am to 6pm.
In 2018 an 80-place Little Miracles child care centre was refused by Central Coast Council less than 300m down the road at the major intersection near Old Gosford Rd.
It was refused due to safety issues around sun glare, traffic management and site coverage.
The Wamberal Action Group (WAG) formed to oppose the centre citing safety issues at the major intersection.
A traffic impact statement for the DA at High Valley Cl indicates that the child care centre would have an “acceptable” impact on the local road network”.
It also states the parking allocation of 41 spaces met the requirements of the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
The developer states the centre will “make a positive social contribution to expanding the region’s child care services in order to meet increasing demand from local residents”.
“The proposed development will also provide economic/employment benefits for the region in
terms of both initial construction multipliers and future economic activity associated with
staffing and support services for operation of the child care centre,” the DA report states.
The DA is on public exhibition until April 8.
