Central Coast’s leading mental health facility is set for an $11m expansion with jobs on offer. See what’s planned.

Gosford Private Hospital redevelopment

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital’s mental services are set for an $11m expansion.

The Central Coast Clinic, based at the Woy Woy hospital, will expand to include a new mental health ward with an extra 27 private beds, art therapy room, gym and group meeting rooms.

Brisbane Waters Private chief executive Debbra Ritter said the facility would be a welcome boost for mental services across the coast which currently have waiting lists of more than six months.

“We’re delighted to have this new development under way to address current shortages locally,” she said.

“It’s yet another positive sign for residents on the Central Coast, with further investment from Healthe Care following the recent $32 million expansion of Gosford Private Hospital, and the addition of Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital to the northern end in Kanwal.”

The mental health expansion will form Stage 2 of the Brisbane Water Private Hospital’s redevelopment.

Stage 1 includes a refurbishment of the hospital’s geriatric service facilities, an upgrade of the bedrooms and ensuites in the medical and surgical wards as well as a refresh of the on-site consulting rooms.

Brisbane Water Private chief executive Debbra Ritter said the upgrade would address mental health service shortages across the coast.

Brisbane Waters Private is a significant player in the local healthcare market,” Ms Ritter said.

“No longer are we just a small community hospital, we offer leading surgical, medical, geriatric, rehabilitation and mental health care, and will soon have world class facilities to match.”

The expansion comes after the $10m redevelopment of the hospital’s main reception, rehabilitation ward, gymnasium and hydrotherapy pool in 2018. It also follows the completion of Gosford Private Hospital’s $32m expansion.

“With the expansion comes an increase in jobs for healthcare professionals and administration staff,” Ms Ritter said.

“We’re currently recruiting for mental health staff and hope to announce the addition of up to five new psychiatrists very soon.”
