Gosford Private Hospital has put the finishing touches on its $32m redevelopment.
The opening of the 12th new theatre closed off the revamp works which have been ongoing for almost two years.
However with growth of the hospital comes with a need for more staff across all areas.
The hospital’s director of clinical services Natasha Mackey told the Express that the hospital was recruiting for a range of jobs.
“We have more than 600 staff but we are ever expanding,” she said.
“We need staff to match the demand. We are recruiting staff across the board from nurses to allied health jobs.”
Ms Mackey said while it wasn’t hard to attract staff, there were challenges on the back of the pandemic.
“Traditionally some of our workforce come from overseas and a lot of people aren’t travelling yet,” she said.
“It’s not hard to attract staff but they are not out and about looking at the moment. There’s also many Australian nurses who are travelling now and keen to work overseas — the benefits of being a nurse.
“We are also looking at supporting graduates coming in. We have a lot of areas of growth, and are able to offer them variety and diversity of experience. It really is an exciting time.”
Ms Mackey said the first procedure was carried out in the newest operating theatre.
“The final piece of the puzzle has come together,” she said.
“It was a fitting end to all of the hard work and the people involved. Staff are taking a lot of pride in the new environment.”
The $32m revamp has seen a complete overhaul of the hospital with a new day surgery unit and step down lounge, 18 bed recovery bay, 12 bed maternity ward and a 23 bed dedicated surgical ward.
The hospital has also achieved another major milestone doing its 100th procedure using the da Vinci Xi surgical robot which assists surgeons with invasive surgery with an advanced set of instruments and a 3D high-definition view.
“It is incredibly important that even during challenging times, we continue to innovate, push barriers and embrace technological advancements where possible,” head of regional operations north Matt Kelly said.
“Our new theatres and the specially designed surgical ward meets the growing demand from our specialists and patients for access to premier facilities, where innovation and surgical advancements can be achieved.”
Since its installation in August 2021, more than six specialists have become accredited to use the $3.5m da Vinci Xi surgical robot in the areas of Urology, General Surgery, Colorectal, Cardiothoracic and Gynaecology.
“We have supported patients through minimally invasive, innovative robotic led techniques for procedures such as Hysterectomies, Bowel Resections, Rectoplexy, Nephectomy and Cystectomies and the results speak for themselves,” perioperative services manager Deana Harrison aid.
“Overall we have far exceeded our projections for cases with the robot and moving forward we expect this to continue to be the case as the community opts for procedures using the robot so they can experience the benefits associated with minimally invasive procedures.”
Ms Mackey said the hospital aimed to be the healthcare provider of choice for locals who no longer have to travel for Sydney for many procedures.
