The suburb boundaries of Glenning Valley and Berkeley Vale will be changed, while Fountaindale has been spared.
The issue came before the Central Coast Council meeting on Tuesday with Administrator Rik Hart voting to realign boundaries of the two suburbs while also renumbering Torrellia Way in line with the Australian/New Zealand Standards of rural and urban addressing.
The changes were given the green light with no members of the community speaking on the issue at the meeting.
“Approximately 150 properties were proposed to be affected by the proposed suburb boundary realignment and 28 properties were proposed to be affected by the proposal to renumber Torrellia Way,” the council report stated.
The proposal to include Fountaindale in the boundary realignment was scrapped due to strong community objections.
These related to confusion for emergency services, school zone changes and Fountaindale being made up of “exclusively acreage properties” as opposed to Glenning Valley’s “mix of housing lots”.
The council report stated that a majority of Torrellia Way residents opposed the renumbering, due to costs, inconvenience, confusion and the proposal being “expensive and ridiculous”.
However the council is required to make the change under the Australian/New Zealand Standard and is hoping to smooth things over with residents by footing the bill for a mail redirection with Australia Post for 12 months.
The changes to Berkeley Vale and Glenning Valley boundaries have come about due to “changes to the lot and road networks through recent subdivisions” which originally came about from a 2009 rezoning plan for 50ha of land called the Glenning Valley Planning Proposal.
“Although some properties in the new subdivisions are in the suburb of Berkeley Vale, the development known as The Glades Estate, was marketed and sold as being within the suburb
of Glenning Valley,” the council report states.
“Council has subsequently received multiple submissions from the developer and property
owners requesting the realignment of the Glenning Valley suburb boundary to incorporate all
properties within the Glades Estate development.”
Properties to be moved into the suburb of Glenning Valley include those within the Glades Estate and properties located south of Blade Close and Enterprise Drive.
The changes will be sent to the Geographical Names Board for approval.
