The kingpin of an alleged family-run heroin syndicate had a “mouth full of f...ing deals” when he was pulled over by police but managed to swallow them to avoid arrest, a court has heard.

Gregory Stewart Boyd, of Morley Ave Bateau Bay, pleaded guilty to the ongoing supply of heroin, dealing with money intended to be used for a crime and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

The 66-year-old was arrested in January last year as part of six simultaneous raids across the Central Coast.

Greg Boyd was been charged over a heroin ring.

Boyd was among eight people arrested during the raids and charged with supplying heroin on almost a daily basis.

Boyd was initially charged with 154 counts of supplying a prohibited drug but the majority of those were withdrawn and dismissed following his guilty pleas to ongoing supply charges and knowingly direct the activities of a criminal group.

An agreed set of police facts stated officers established Strike Force Lamprey in October 2018 to target the supply of heroin on the Central Coast.

The facts said Boyd’s co accused Robert Calamatta was the “upline supplier” and would source heroin from people in Sydney before coming back and splitting it with Boyd.

Calamatta, of Wamberal, pleaded guilty to supplying drugs in October and is awaiting sentencing in the District Court.

Police obtained hundreds of telephone intercepts and used further surveillance to track the group’s illegal activities.

“On several occasions police tried to intercept the drug supplies while the offender (Boyd) had the drug in his possession but when they searched him and his vehicle they never found the heroin as the offender would swallow it when police pulled him over,” the facts read.

Boyd was driving a maroon station wagon at 9.35am on Friday, January 4, at Killarney Vale when police pulled him over but again he managed to swallow it.

While they searched his car a mobile phone, one which police were not monitoring, rang “over 100 times”.

Boyd was released but contacted his “customer base” and told them not to contact his other phone because police had seized it.

He made other arrangements to supply his customers that afternoon and when he failed to hang up on one customer he was captured on the telephone intercept talking about his close call with police.

“Yeah, a mouth full of f...ing deals. I nearly didn’t get time to swallow it ... I thought f... that looks like a coppers van,” he was recorded.

The woman he was speaking to asked: “Yeah, yeah they got the deals?”

He replied “no” to which she said “Well done Greg, very well done”.

“You just had them in your mouth?” she asked.

“Yeah I f...ing shit myself,” Boyd replied.

Boyd will face Gosford District Court on February 20.
