Central Coast couple Hayden Brindle and Shaylee Cheal charged with importing steroids

A bulked-up, tattoo-covered man and his glamorous blonde girlfriend have been charged with importing steroids on the Central Coast.

On social media their lives appear glamorous with photos of them on holidays lounging by the pool or hanging out at the gym.

But in the dock after a night in the police cells following their arrest for allegedly importing and supplying steroids, Hayden Brindle, 28, of Wamberal, and his girlfriend Shaylee Cheal, 24, of Hamlyn Terrace, cut two very different appearances.

The pair faced Gosford Local Court on Friday where she cried openly while her solicitor James Nicopolous successfully applied for bail, a condition of which that she has no contact with her beau.

Mr Brindle, meanwhile, said nothing while his matter was mentioned briefly.

Their arrests came after Brisbane Water Police established Strike Force Oldaker to investigate the importation and supply of steroids in Erina and surrounding areas.

As a result of inquiries, several parcels were intercepted by Australian Border Force that allegedly contained various steroids.

About 12.40pm on Thursday the couple attended Erina Post Office before returning to their car with a number of parcels.

A short time later, awaiting police stopped the vehicle and Mr Brindle was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station.

A subsequent search warrant was conducted at a unit on Ghersi Ave, Wamberal, where police seized various steroids and MDMA.

Following further inquiries, Ms Cheal was arrested and also taken to Gosford Police Station.

Mr Brindle was charged with five counts of import prohibited imports, two counts possessing or attempting to possess anabolic or androgenic steroidal agent and two counts of supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug.

Ms Cheal was charged with four counts of importing prohibited items and two counts of supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug.

Mr Nicopolous, who appeared on behalf of both of the couple, told the court the prosecutor did not oppose bail for Ms Cheal.

The court heard she must live with her mother on Minnesota Rd, Hamlyn Terrace, report to Wyong Police Station every Monday and have no contact with her boyfriend.

Mr Brindle did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

He was ordered to reappear at court next Friday, while she is due to appear again on March 27.
