A 55-year-old woman has died at Canberra Hospital following a horror two car collision on the Kings Highway east of Queanbeyan.

A 55-year-old woman has lost her life after she was involved in a two-car collision the Kings Highway, East of Queanbeyan.

The crash, which occurred at Carwoola, NSW, near Pinewood Cl at 9.20am on Friday, involved a Toyota Yaris, driven by the deceased woman, and a Mazda 3 driven by a 35 year old woman.

NSW Ambulance told the Canberra Star the drivers of both cars were trapped in their vehicles following the crash and both women were transported to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 55-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Friday afternoon.

The 35 year old driver remains in a serious but stable condition at Canberra Hospital.

A statement from NSW Police said the Toyota Yaris was travelling west while the Mazda 3 was travelling east when the collision occurred.

Officers from Monaro Police District established a crime scene following the crash which was examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.

NSW Police urge members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or who have dashcam footage of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
