ACT police investigate suspicious package delivered to Russian embassy in Canberra

A suspicious package remains under investigation after a delivery to the Russian Embassy in Canberra on Thursday, but the area is no longer cordoned off and all lanes of traffic have reopened.

The Embassy of Russia in Canberra is no longer cordoned off to the public after concerns were raised over two suspicious packages delivered to the embassy.

Normal traffic resumed on Canberra Ave at 3.30pm on Thursday following hours of city-bound traffic being reduced to one lane.

So far in their investigation the contents of one package has been deemed non-suspicious by police yet the second package requires further analysis.

ACT Policing received a report about the packages at 10.05am on Thursday morning.

Just before 4pm two police vehicles were seen parked at a median strip on Canberra Ave opposite the embassy.

Following Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine the embassy, located in the leafy inner-south suburb of Griffith, has been a target for protests over recent days.

Police have urged members of the public who have information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
