A driver has been accused of attempted murder after allegedly hitting a young man in a horror hit-and-run in the state’s south.
Joshua McDonnell, 22, appeared before Cooma Local Court on Wednesday via custody, weeks after an alleged hit-and-run on Mittagang Rd, Cooma.
Emergency services were called to the southern road about 1.30am, January 4, following reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, Monaro Police District officers found a 23-year-old man suffering serious injuries after allegedly being hit by a car.
McDonnell was allegedly driving the car and left the scene prior to police arrival.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the alleged victim for a head injury, before he was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
About 3.30pm the next day,McDonnellattended Queanbeyan police station, where he was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and render assistance, not giving particulars to another driver, and driving while suspended.
However, following further inquiries by investigators, the young man was hit with an additional charge of attempted murder on March 31.
McDonnell, who was refused bail, appeared in Cooma Local Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Roger Clisdell.
The 22-year-old did not apply for bail, with Mr Clisdell adjourning the case to June 4 at the same court.
McDonnell is yet to enter pleas.
