The trial of the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins might be postponed. Find out why

The trial of the Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins at Parliament House in 2019 might be delayed by up to a fortnight.

On Tuesday lawyers for Mr Lehrmann told the ACT Supreme Court they had difficulty securing a barrister to represent him due to circumstances “beyond anyone’s control”.

“I prefer the term postpone,” Chief Justice Lucy McCallum said.

Mr Lehrmann’s trial is due to begin on June 6 and is likely to run for 4-6 weeks.

Ms McCallum told Mr Lehrmann’s lawyers she was reluctant to postpone the trial for an extended period of time and said she would make a decision on the application after 48 hours.
