Sharon Ann Stott was on the verge of tears when she was told she will be behind bars until at least 2022.

The feared matriarch of Canberra’s criminal underbelly will spend more than two years in prison over her role in the violent extortion of a small time heroin dealer.

Sharon Ann Stott, 58, of Kambah, was close to tears in the dock of ACT Supreme Court on Thursday when Justice John Burns jailed her for the role she played in a standover job on Chris Sanchez in January last year.

Justice Burns had previously found Stott guilty of unlawful confinement and making a demand accompanied by a threat.

Stott and her thug accomplice, David Michael Evans, 34, rocked up at Mr Sanchez’s house demanding he pay Stott $20,000 for a decade old debt she said he owed her.

Evans was armed with a baseball bat and made repeated threats to Mr Sanchez, which he eventually carried out, although Stott tried to stop him.

Justice Burns said: “The way in which the offences unfolded from the moment that you entered the premises with the victim speaks of a pre-existing plan.

“I have no doubt that you were aware that the occupant of the premises was a

small-time heroin supplier.”

Stott, who is on Centrelink, has a long criminal history and told a court-appointed report writer she had become used to a “comfortable life” from dealing drugs.

Justice Burns detailed Stott’s serious criminal history and dramatic personal life.

“Some” of Stott’s former partners had been “killed in acts of criminal violence”, Justice Burns said.

Stott’s criminal associates — including Evans — are largely linked to the Canberra chapter of the Satudarah outlaw bikie gang, and she has repeatedly used them as her hired muscle.

Justice Burns said Stott hadn’t shown any remorse towards Mr Sanchez, and that her “total lack” of insight into her crimes meant she needed to “feel the full weight of the sentences of imprisonment” instead of being allowed to serve jail time on an intensive corrections order.

He sentenced Stott to three years and four months jail.

She will be eligible for parole in June 2022.

Evans was sentenced to four years and four months jail, but is serving time for other crimes and now has a total sentence of nine years and 11 months.

He will be eligible for parole in July 2025.
