A leadfoot driver who caught the attention of country traffic cops is now facing the prospect of a long jail stint after police found nearly 1kg of cocaine in the back seat of his ute.

Kojir Majeed, 30, of Merrylands, faced the Goulburn Local Court by video link on Wednesday where he indicated he would plead guilty to supplying a commercial quantity of cocaine, possessing cannabis and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Police at the time said they pulled over a grey Toyota HiLux with South Australian number plates when they spotted it doing an estimated 50km/h over the speed limit on the Hume Hwy in Bookham, near Yass.

According to documents tendered in court, Majeed told the country traffic cops who pulled him over that he was driving from Adelaide to Wollongong.

Court records reveal Majeed has previously spent time in South Australia.

The officers searched the car when they noticed a “strong smell of cannabis” from the cabin, and found a reusable shopping bag under the back passenger seat with two vacuum sealed packages of white powder, which testing later revealed was cocaine.

The search also uncovered $5000 in $50 notes.

The street value of the cocaine is estimated at $300,000.

Forensic testing revealed Majeed’s DNA on one of the two vacuum sealed bags of cocaine, which contained a combined 889.2 grams of the drug.

Majeed’s co-accused, Jack Terlet, who was with him in the car, also appeared briefly in court by video link on Wednesday, where Adelaide-based lawyer Craig Caldicott pleaded not guilty on his client’s behalf.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie committed Majeed to the District Court for sentencing and committed Terlet for trial.

Both will return to court in February.
