A western Sydney man will remain behind bars on remand after police allege he used social media to groom children into sending him child abuse material.

Zack Daniel Moore, 25, of Rooty Hill, was arrested by the Australian Federal Police on Wednesday following a tip-off from authorities in the European Union.

Police began investigating Moore after receiving a report from Europol about a Facebook user in Australia who allegedly used multiple social media accounts to solicit child abuse material online.

Officers raided his Rooty Hill home in July, seizing two electronic devices which allegedly contained material from several child victims.

He was arrested yesterday and charged with 20 offences, including ten counts of sending indecent material to a person under 16, nine counts of soliciting child abuse material online and a further charge of possessing the material.

He faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.

Moore faced Mt Druitt Local Court on Thursday where he was formally refused bail.

He will return to court on December 16.
