Woman charged over Kings Langley crash killing elderly relative

An Acacia Gardens woman has been charged with negligent driving after allegedly running a red light and causing a crash which killed her elderly relative.

Rowena Porciunula, 45, appeared in Blacktown Local Court on Monday, July 29, on five charges — including negligent driving occasioning death — over the July 7 crash that killed her 79-year-old female passenger.

Ms Porciunula’s passenger died in hospital 11 days after the crash at the intersection of Sunnyholt Rd and James Cook Dr, Kings Langley.

Police said Ms Porciunula was driving a Nissan Micra south on Sunnyholt Rd when she allegedly ran a red light and crashed into a Lexus turning right onto James Cook Dr.

Paramedics performed CPR on the elderly passenger at the scene before taking her to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. She died on July 18.

The driver of the Lexus, a 51-year-old man, was uninjured.

Ms Porciunula was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

She was charged over the crash on July 8 and now faces additional charges.

She is yet to enter pleas to the five charges, including negligent and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent and dangerous driving occasioning death and not stopping at a red light.

She is due to face Blacktown Local Court again on September 23.
