Father charged over allegedly assaulting three-month-old baby

A 22-year-old Malabar man has been refused bail over allegedly assaulting his three-month-old baby girl and her mother at a Mt Druitt home.

A man who allegedly assaulted his three-month-old baby girl and detained the baby’s mother in their Mt Druitt home, has been refused bail.

Police allege the man, aged 22, of Malabar, assaulted his infant daughter and inflicted serious injuries on her on three occasions between October and December last year, without seeking medical attention.

It’s alleged he assaulted the baby’s mother, aged 27, causing her actual bodily harm, while detaining while detaining her at home for 24 days during the same period.

On December 30, police were made aware of the alleged abuse after the infant was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with head, throat and leg injuries.

Police say the man then attempted to persuade the woman to give false evidence about the incident to officers.

After months of investigation, detectives arrested him at a facility in Silverwater just before 10am yesterday.

He faces a string of charges, including: three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, not providing for a child and causing danger of serious injury, kidnapping with intent to cause actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, acting to influence a witness and contravening an AVO.

He did not apply for bail during his appearance at Mt Druitt Local Court today, and it was formally refused.

He will face court again on September 18.
