Two more young men have been charged over the fatal stabbing in Sydney’s west last month after a 40-year-old man died.
The total number of people charged is now six.
A 19-year-old man and 25-year-old man were arrested at Mt Druitt police station on Thursday about 8am.
The teenager has been charged with affray and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permission, and the older man way charged with affray.
Emergency services were called to a reserve at Catlin Close, Whalan, about 7.30pm on December 22, where they located three men – aged 40, 25 and 19 – with stab wounds.
Matthew Smale, 40, died at the scene by a fatal stab to the neck and the two other men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Westmead Hospital for their injuries.
Four other men – one aged 18 and three aged 19 – have already been charged over their alleged involvement in the incident, and remain before the courts.
It is believed all men were known to each other.
Police have said the fight was prearranged and was about unpaid rent, a playstation and who owns a cat.
Up to 15 spectators were there to watch, according to police.
The 40-year-old man’s 19-year-old son Jaiden was stabbed in the chest while his 25-year-old uncle was also knifed.
“It’s a trivial and senseless act,” Detective Chief Inspector Paul Tickner said.
“It’s escalated to a point where it’s just ridiculous that a person’s lost their life, two people are in hospital — one’s still fighting for their life — over a dispute over not paying rent and some property that was taken in retribution for it,’’ he said.
The two men who were charged on Thursday have been granted conditional bail and will appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on February 2.
Police investigations will continue and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
