Young boxer reaps rewards of his hard work with spot at Aussie titles
Young boxer Tyrell Adams is kept on his toes by the sport he loves and it is taking him to the Australian championships.
Tyrell Adams has one word to describe how he feels ahead of competing at his first Australian championship later this month - pumped.
The 13-year-old booked himself a flight to the Gold Coast for the event with victory at the recent state titles.
It was a just reward for the hard working young boxer from Chifley College Shalvey Campus who cites rugby league player turned boxer Anthony Mundine and American Floyd Mayweather as his favourite fighters.

“It made me feel proud when I won because all my hard work had paid off,” Adams said.
“On Monday’s I do boxing, Tuesday’s I have free training, Wednesday boxing, and touch football, Thursday footy training and Friday’s boxing.”
Adams said he was around five when he first went to a gym to learn how to box and immediately connected to the sport.
“I like that it teaches you discipline. That side of it,” said Adams, who fought at PCYC Blacktown in his 40 kilo weight division to win the NSW title and book himself a ticket to the Australian championships.
“It takes a lot of skill, fitness and hard work.
“On Monday’s after our warm up we spar each other and each of the boys I spar have a different style and technique so you’re always learning from each other.’’
The teenager said his sport teaches self control and is not just about putting gloves on and being aggressive.
“I’ve learned that you can’t be a successful boxer if you don’t have self-control,’’ he said.
Adams, who said he could not do the sport without the support of his family, was recently invited to spar with former IBF and IBO junior lightweight world champion Gairy “Superman” St Clair at his gym in Gymea.
