Shute Shield: Patrician Brothers Blacktown students reunion with old teacher in Two Blues v Penrith

They used to bump into each other in the school corridor but in the Shute Shield battle of the west there was a different type of reunion for this teacher and his old students.

In a remarkable coincidence Penrith captain Delahoya Manu and Two Blues player Michael Zakhia met up with an old teacher on the field at Lidcombe Oval in the weekend’s Shute Shield battle between the two clubs from Sydney’s west.

The Patrician Brothers Blacktown old boys were taught by Colm McCaughan at the school and it was their old teacher who happened to be their referee in round eight.

It was the first time the two clubs form Sydney’s west have met since 2017 following Penrith’s return to the comp this season.

The match had an additional importance as it has more than likely decide who will take the wooden spoon this season.

Kalafi Pongi starred for the Western Sydney Two Blues in there 36-29 win with a hat-trick of tries.

Tuitakau Kioa and Niki Dalivusa also scored for the Two Blues.

Penriths try scorers were Terry Fanolua, Willie Tooala, Luke Nadurutalo and Jeremiah Faamausili.
