Less than a day after they extended their winning run in the Shute Shield to seven wins, Gordon coach Darren Coleman was scouring the country for a specialist player to answer an SOS from his club.
Coronavirus restrictions mean his options are seriously limited with no time to bring in players from overseas or even interstate due to quarantine laws.

“We lost two key players from the same position can you believe it,’’ Coleman said after Gordon’s thumping of Randwick on Saturday.

“Rhys Brodie ruptured his Achilles and is having surgery now and our back up tight head Ola Tauelangi did his medial ligament and is also out for the season.
“It’s such a specialist position. We can’t move just anyone in so we’re frantically scouring the county for someone.’’
The pairs injury on Saturday means Gordon have now lost four key players to season-ending injuries in just three weeks.
“We lost fullback Jaylin Graham with a broken jaw the week before and the competitions top tryscorer Brandon Quinn with a knee.
“Prior to that we fielded the same 15 for the first five rounds.’’
Gordon produced an unanswered 22 points on the second half of their match with Randwick to take the 42-15 win.
“The key thing was our defence in the second half. To keep them to zero was pretty impressive,’’ Coleman said.
Next up for Gordon is an injury-ravaged Southern Districts who were smashed 57-19 by a surging Eastern Suburbs on Saturday.
With a perfect scorecard, Gordon lead the premier club rugby comp from Sydney University, Randwick and Norths.
