FOR a late, lazy lunch there is nowhere better than the Royal Cricketers Arms in Prospect.
Just off the western motorway on Cricketers Arms Rd, the heritage listed pub boasts old world charm and a distinctly country feel that draws people from Blacktown and beyond.
Built in the 1880s, the Royal Cricketers Arms is blessedly free of poker machines, TAB and pool tables. Instead, visitors will find friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of tasty food that won’t burn a hole in your wallet.
It also has a pretty beer garden with rustic wooden tables, a jacaranda tree and a cat or two that likes to visit from its nearby home.
As well as traditional pub fare including steak and chips and burgers, the pub offers an impressive array of lighter, healthier options.
My colleague and I were wowed by the Caesar salad which was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, with crusty croutons, bacon pieces and egg on a bed of cos lettuce.
The pork knuckle was done to perfection, the salty crackling and meat contrasting nicely with the apple sauce.
Venue manager Stacey Cameron said the pork knuckle was one of the pub’s most popular dishes and it is easy to see why.
Try the salmon with lemon herb mash, olive soil and tomato verge.
The pub also offers a range of smaller plates that are great to share among a group of people. The crispy onion rings, baby calamari and the popcorn shrimp were very more-ish.
Sweet tooths can try the array of sweets on offer including the Oreo cookies and cream cheesecake and the royal pavlova with meringue and berries.
