Solway leads Bankstown

Daniel Solway turned enough heads with his big-hitting in Premier Cricket to crack a spot in the NSW Blues and make a memorable century on debut in the Sheffield Shield last year.

Now the 25-year-old has returned to his club roots again in the wake of the most recent Sheffield Shield games in Adelaide with the goal of turning a few more heads.

Solway captained Bankstown in Sunday’s Kingsgrove Cup T20 semi-final with Fairfield-Liverpool.

His co-captain Daniel McAndrews was absent for the match, joining his Sydney Thunder teammates in relocating to Canberra last week for training.

“I’m not with a BBL team at this stage so it’s back to grade cricket for Bankstown with the semi-final on Sunday a big game for us,’’ Solway said.

“I would love to be involved at some stage with the Big Bash. You just have to score runs in Premier Cricket and T20 and do your best to perform for your club and then hopefully something arises.

“It’s one of those things. You never know how things will go with injury so from my point of view I’ll just focus on playing welll for mty club and being ready to go.’’

Born and bred in Revesby, Solway has been a loyal member of the Bankstown club since his junior years ands made his Premier Cricket debut at just 16.

“It’s a very proud club with a lot of history,’’ he said of Bankstown, a club which over the years has boasted the likes of Steve and Mark Waugh, Jeff Thompson, Trevor Chappell, Len Pascoe and Aaron Bird.

“I remember doing the scoreboard, before we had an electronic one, as a kid when Simon Keen and Aaron Bird were playing.’’

Bankstown is one of just three teams to make the T20 semi-finals after being undefeated in the rounds.
