He looks like a laid-back surfer who should be hanging out at the beach.
Instead Jack Edwards is making a real mark in NSW Premier Cricket.
On one of the hottest days this year, Edwards put in a scorching performance against Northern Districts.
The rising star scored his debut first grade century (107) last round and on the opening day of round seven scored his second.
Edwards tallied 108 on Saturday at Mark Taylor Oval for his Manly Warringah club.
Edwards, who played his junior cricket at Beacon Hill cricket club, was a stand in the match against Northern Districts along with teammate Joel Foster who opened and scored his first century (160).
Going into the round Manly-Warringah (32), Sydney Uni (27), Sydney (26) and Eastern Suburbs (26) made up the top four with a log jam behind them.
Edwards was one of numerous players to score a century in the testing conditions on Saturday.
At Randwick Petersham Daya Singh scored his second century and joined an elite club.
Singh came in at number nine and joins only eight others who have scored a century at number nine. Six of these have been since 2002, the other two before 1937.
Other standout performances on the weekend included:
#Sutherland’s Tom Doyle, after making 91 in the last two-day match, scored his fourth century in what was his 100th match in Sydney first-grade cricket.
#Sydney University gun Nick Larkin scored his 18th century.
#Peter Nevill, playing for Eastern Suburbs, scored his 13th first-grade century.
#St George cricketer Nick Stapleton scored his seventh century.
#Mosman’s Harry Dalton scored his fifth century.
#Mosman’s Nathan Hinton went past 3000 runs to 3058 at 24.46.
#West’s captain Josh Clarke, who has 19 centuries to his name, produced the best bowling figures of his career with 5/69. It was his second five wicket performance and takes him to 153 wickets at 26.66.
#Bankstown’s Ben Taylor took his third five wicket haul (5/28).
