Police are investigating possible gang links after shots were fired into a loungeroom – narrowly missing children including a one-year-old.

Officers were called to Alicante Street, Minchinbury, just before 9pm on November 1 following reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, police found spent rounds and noticed damage to the front of the house.

Four adults and four children, including a one-year-old, were in the loungeroom when two bullets came through the front window.

Police said it was luck nobody was hit.

“We believe that they were aware of the people in the premises,” Chief Inspector Paul Tickner, Mount Druitt Crime Manager, said.

“Potentially some of the teenagers in the premises at the time were probably the targets.

“We are looking for a small, grey hatchback, we believe there were a number of people in the vehicle, at least two.”

He said gang association is a line of enquiry.

A neighbour said he heard the gunfire and initially thought it was fireworks.

“I was sitting at home on my lounge and I thought it was fireworks,” he said.

“At the time I thought it was for like the Melbourne Cup but then I saw this morning all over Facebook about this shooting.

“It’s crazy. It never happens here. I’ve lived in Minchinbury a long time and I’ve never heard of a shooting or nothing like that out here.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam vision, particularly a grey Volkswagen Golf seen in the area at the time, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations continue. More to come.
