Police appeal after teen approached by man in Doonside

Police say a man in his 30s approached a teenage girl before she ran away to seek help.

Police have appealed for the public’s help after a teenage girl was approached by a man in Doonside this week.

The 17-year-old girl was outside a medical centre on Doonside Cres when she was approached by a man in a van at about 11.45am on Monday, October 21.

Police say the man spoke to the teen before she went inside the medical centre and told a friend.

The teenager and her friend then confronted the man, who then drove away.

Officers from Blacktown Police were informed and are investigating the incident.

The man is described as being of Asian appearance, aged 30, with a medium build and short dark hair.

The vehicle is described as a dark green van with Asian religious statues on the dashboard.

  • Police have reminded young people about their ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ message:
  • • Make sure an adult knows where you are at all times.

    • Always walk straight home to your destination.

    • Walk on busier roads and streets if possible and use paths where there are people around.

    • Know where safe places are, for example, a service station, shop, school or police station.

    • Never get into a car with someone you don’t know.

    • If you are approached, do not stop and engage in conversation.

    • If you are scared, use a phone and call triple-0.

    • If someone tries to grab you, yell as loud as you can to let other people know you’ve been approached.

    • If possible, try to obtain vehicle registration details or take a photo.
