The first images of a new multimillion-dollar primary school planned for Marsden Park’s Elara estate have been unveiled.
The $55 million school planned for Northbourne Dr is expected to open its doors in 2021, catering for up to 1000 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
The school will be the second public school in the booming Marsden Park region, with an extra 2570 students expected to call the suburb home by 2031.
Covering three hectares, the state-of-the-art school will be built over three storeys with a central outdoor area, library, hall, special education unit, canteen and sporting fields.
A milestone was reached in the development this week, with the State Government lodging a State Significant Development Application with the planning department.
According to planning documents, the school has been identified as a “necessity” in the growing region and will cater for close to 40 per cent of the area’s students.
Once complete, the school will be surrounded by a childcare centre, aged care facility and residential development.
“Marsden Park is located within Sydney’s northwest growth centre which is currently undergoing large scale development,” a scoping report states.
“Rapid population growth within the area necessitates the supply of local infrastructure, including educational facilities.
“The need for public school facilities within Marsden Park is essential to meet the educational needs of the new community and its surrounds.
“The proposed new school will provide residents with high quality education facilities in a suitable location with surrounding complementary community facilities and open space.”
Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly said he was committed to supporting vital infrastructure projects in the growing region.
“I am pleased the planning process is well under away and look forward to receiving community feedback,” Mr Conolly said.
“Many local families share my excitement and will be eager to learn more and to share their views.
“Marsden Park and the rest of North West Sydney is experiencing unprecedented growth.
“This government has already funded numerous new and upgraded schools in this area alone over the past few years, and we are committed to delivering more.
“We will continue to support the development of the area, with continuous investments into jobs, roads and public transport but also social infrastructure such as schools, parks and community facilities.”
The plans are expected to go on public exhibition in the near future. To keep up to date with the project’s progress, visit the website here.
