A Marayong man accused of filming child pornography with his four-year-old niece has been refused bail after hundreds of thousands of child abuse images were allegedly found on his computer.

The 37-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his alleged victim, was arrested yesterday after a tip-off from US Homeland Security Investigations after he allegedly purchased child pornography over the internet.

He faces four charges of using a carriage service to access child pornography and two of possessing child abuse material.

During a brief mention in Blacktown Local Court today, it was alleged the man produced sexually explicit videos with his four-year-old niece in the family home while his wife was present but unaware of the alleged offending.

The court heard more than 180,000 images and eight videos of child porn were allegedly found on the man’s computer which was seized during a raid on his Marayong home yesterday.

Police allege the man filmed sexual videos with his four-year-old niece and accessed child porn online.

It’s alleged the man had accessed child pornography online over four years, with the earliest offending dating back to June 2015.

The prosecution alleged the man viewed at least one image a day during this four-year period.

In arguing for his release, the man’s lawyer proposed that he have his internet disconnected and that he not be allowed near schools as part of a series of strict bail conditions. He argued the man was at risk in custody due to the nature of the charges.

The court heard the man had a limited criminal history, with only a drink-driving conviction from 2009.

However, Magistrate Leanne Robinson refused bail and said the man faced up to 15 years in jail if convicted.

“The most concerning of the offences are those involving videos of the accused and young female children,” Ms Robinson said.

“The defendant has made admissions to making recordings of his four-year-old niece of a sexual nature.

“I am not satisfied there are any conditions that could mitigate the accused committing further offences.”

He is the first person charged in NSW since the new Child Sexual Exploitation Legislation Amendment Bill came into effect on September 21 and is the second man arrested in the state after a referral from US Homeland Security Investigations.

He is yet to enter a plea and will face Central Local Court on November 27. The child is currently in the care of family.
