A 27-year-old man has been charged after an alleged fight between a visitor and an inmate at a western Sydney prison.

Police were called to the Parklea Correctional Centre on June 12, 2024 after reports of a physical fight between the man and a 31-year-old visitor to the facility.

Police allege the fight was sparked by previous rivalries between the two men, who allegedly have connections to Sydney gangs.

The 31-year-old was detained by correctional staff at the scene and released by police after he was interviewed.

He was arrested by Raptor Squad officers the following day at Marsden Park and charged with affray, but his court case has now concluded.

Police have charged the 27-year-old prisoner, who is at Silverwater Correctional Centre, with affray.

He will face Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, July 25.
