A man has been charged over allegedly importing illegal gun parts using stolen identities in Sydney’s west.
Nicholas Ryan McKenzie, 36, of Castle Hill, faced Parramatta Local Court today on a string of charges after Border Force officers allegedly found firearm parts in a package from the United States in October last year.
NSW Police established Strike Force Carwin to investigate the alleged importation and raided a unit on Wallace St, Blacktown, at 8am on Tuesday.
Police allege Mr McKenzie used a stolen driver’s licence to acquire the parts and used stolen credit card details to purchase mobile phones, SIM cards and lease post office boxes.
It’s alleged Mr McKenzie used the imported parts to manufacture a semiautomatic AR15 assault rifle.
Mr McKenzie was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with three counts of acquiring prohibited firearms parts without authority, two counts of attempting to manufacture a prohibited firearm without a licence, two counts of dealing with identity information to commit an offence and two counts of obtaining property by deception.
Police also seized documents and other relevant items during the raid.
He was refused bail and will face court again in June.
