Kings Langley themed walks: Superhero, fairy princess, ninjago, Christmas in July

Superheroes, fairy princesses and Santa Clauses are hiding away in Sydney’s west, with one suburb launching themed walks to help cure the family lockdown blues.

How Delta variant is far more contagious than previous strains of COVID-19

As we go into yet another week of lockdown and the kids are going crazy cooped up inside, it’s important to make the most of the walks available in the local community.

Around Western Sydney, multiple good citizens have put together themed walks, featuring characters including superheroes and fairy princesses, to keep the family entertained for hours.

The walks, of different lengths and difficulties, have been shared on social media and are sure to keep the body and brain entertained.

Aimee O’Brien, a local teacher, runs the Facebook page King’s Langley Kindness which features a number of the walks and maps of the tracks.

Ms O’Brien said she was delighted the themed walks had given families a reason to “get some sunshine and fresh air … and make their days and walks just a little bit more exciting”.

“It’s so beautiful seeing people out giving it a go, whether it is families together, people with their dogs or even the elderly people I’ve seen giving it a go,” she said.

“I truly believe that no act of kindness is too small, every smile I’ve managed to put on a persons’ face creates a ripple effect- spreading more in return.”

So, after the all the walks were personally tried and tested by the Blacktown Advocate, here are the top five.

1. NINJAGO WALK

This walk is located around Woodcroft Lake and there are 12 Ninjago characters to find around the lake path. The walk around Woodcroft Lake is approximately 900m and is both picturesque and entertaining for the whole family. The walk was of medium difficulty and the figures were in a nice array of locations around the lake.

2. THE WIGGLES WALK

The Wiggles walk is a shorter walk of about 350m through Banks Reserve, Kings Langley. This mini walk is perfect for children of all ages and is more suitable for younger families. That doesn’t mean these Wiggles characters are any easier to find though as they are hidden in trees and bushes so make sure you are alert on this short walk. Can you find all eight Wiggles character’s?

3.CHRISTMAS IN JULY WALK

Located in and around Morgan Power reserve, this walk is one that is perfect for families who need their kids to burn off some of their endless energy. Located off Vardy’s Rd, Blacktown, there are 25 Christmas themed items to find. The walking course is around the entire Morgan Power Reserve, making it a tricky one to tackle but perfect if you have children who love a bit of friendly competition as this is the hardest walk I did.

4. DISNEY PRINCESS QUEST

This is another walk that will leave your legs aching. Starting off in Whitby Road, Kings Langley, this search loops Peace Reserve where there are 15 Disney Princesses to find. Definitely the hardest themed walk I endured due to the fact I only managed to find seven of the 15 princesses. Make sure you look high and low and check behind you as some are located in very tricky places. Can you find more than me?

5. SUPERHERO SEARCH

Rounding out the list is the Superhero Search which is located in a similar spot to the Disney Princess Quest. You may find yourself looking for the Hulk and finding Moana instead. This walk consists of 15 characters to find and it is slightly easier than the Princess Quest. The walk starts on Mercury Pl, Kings Langley and the walking loop is quite scenic and goes for about 1.2km. This walk may have ranked higher if I hadn’t done all the walks in the same day and my legs weren’t screaming at me to sit down. Make sure you don’t miss Superman as he is hiding carefully among the trees.

Well down to the those who have set these tracks up for the neighbourhood and good luck to everyone taking part!

You can find more information on these courses and new ones popping up every day on local community groups on Facebook, with King’s Langley Kindness compiling a list of all that are currently available.
