A western Sydney man charged after he allegedly tried to delete child abuse material from his phone when cops arrested him has faced court.

Joshua Wright, 39, appeared at Mt Druitt Court on Wednesday – a month after his arrest at Luxford Rd, Whalan, when police allegedly discovered he was in possession of child abuse material during a search of a home.

Cops were on a routine check of the property on the night of August 8 when they seized the dad’s mobile phone, which allegedly had several indecent images of children stored on it.

Last month, the court heard how he allegedly entered a bathroom to delete explicit child abuse material from his phone before police seized it for forensic examination.

He was granted bail in August and returned to court for the first time since he was granted bail a day after he was charged with possessing child abuse material.

His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

The matter will return to court on November 1.
