A former member of rap group OneFour currently serving a prison sentence for striking a man in the head with a hammer during a bloody brawl inside a Rooty Hill pub has appealed the severity of his sentence.
Dahcell “Celly” Ramos, 22, a former member of the Mount Druitt drill-rap group, used a hammer to bash a victim during the wild fight at the Carousel Inn Hotel in July 2018.
The violent fight was caught on CCTV footage and left one man motionless in a pool of blood.
Ramos, who was 19 at the time, was then involved in another violent incident just weeks later in September 2018.
A court heard he was part of a frightening armed robbery which saw him punch a victim and use a knife to threaten the victim.
In both incidents, he was in the company of other offenders.
Ramos pleaded guilty to a string of offences and was sentenced in late 2019 to a minimum six years imprisonment for the two brazen attacks.
Ramos appeared in the NSW Supreme Court on Monday to appeal the severity of his sentence, wearing a green jacket and beaming into court via a video link from prison.
His lawyer claimed the sentence was “manifestly excessive” and “infected by error”.
She said his sentence should have been shorter when compared to the sentences given to co-offenders and the remorse he had shown.
The Crown prosecutor refuted that claim.
“The applicant was the one who hit (a victim) in the head with a hammer and stomped on his head a number of times,” the prosecutor said, referring to the hotel attack.
Justice Fabian Gleeson, Justice Geoffrey Bellew and Justice Ian Harrison have reserved their judgment which will be given at a later date.
Fellow One Four members Salec “Lekks” Sua and Pio “YP” Misa were also jailed for their part in the Rooty Hill pub brawl.
