A third member of the rap group OneFour has been sent to prison for instigating a wild brawl in a Rooty Hill pub and shaking a man’s head as he lay motionless in a pool of blood.
Rapper Salec Sua, 26, known as Lekks – one of the main members of the Mount Druitt-based rap group OneFour – was sentenced to a jail term of four years and six months on Friday with a non-parole of two years and three months.
He admitted to instigating the brawl on July 21, 2018 at the Carousel Inn Hotel.
“I think it just got too heated between me and the victims,” he said during his sentence.
“We had a confrontation over his gaming machine and before I knew it everything was over.”
One of the victims had said to Sua “why are you looking at my f****** machine?” which lead to an argument and the brawl.
Sua was held back by security guards during the fight but encouraged his friends to assault the victims.
Four of his friends including fellow rappers Pio “YP” Misa and Dahcell “Celly” Ramos used a hammer and wooden chair leg to beat three men during the assault which happened about 1am.
One of the victims, Troy Taylor, suffered serious injuries including multiple fractures to his face and skull leaving him in a pool of blood on the floor of the outdoor pokies room.
As he lay on the floor, Sua went up to him and grabbed him by the hair and shook his head.
The ugly brawl was caught on CCTV footage which has been shown in court.
Meanwhile, OneFour last week announced the cancellation of their nationwide tour after claiming the police put pressure on venues. NSW Police has denied that claim.
The group still played a sold out show in Auckland on Thursday night, despite being without a number of its main members.
The crowd reportedly chanted “free YP, free YP” during the first song in Auckland after the rapper was imprisoned for the brawl.
On Wednesday, rappers YP and Celly were sentenced to terms of imprisonment of four years and 10 years respectively for their part in the brawl.
Co-accused Timothy Willett and Jimmy Vaafusuaga have also been convicted for the assault, with Vaafusuaga being sentenced to four years imprisonment.
Sua was the last of the group to be sentenced.
Judge James Bennett said while Sua did not actually strike anybody, he instigated the fight and was “the vigorous aggressor throughout”.
“His moral culpability should not be reduced significantly because of his repeated attempts to get involved in the assault and his being the instigator and the vigorous aggressor.”
Judge Bennett also slammed him for grabbing one of the victims by the head as he lay unconscious.
“Even though that was for a short time there is no explanation before me on why he would have done such a thing … it is deplorable.”
Sua’s criminal history was also taken into account which included a previous jail sentence for his part in a riot.
Sua was sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm in company.
The name OneFour is based on the fact they started rapping in 2014.
The main members of the group are rappers YP, J Emz, Lekks and Spenny. Fellow rapper Celly has also appeared in their recordings.
